would you carry this guy?

This story brought a smile to my face this morning. “New York comedian Mark Malkoff set out to disprove the myth that the city is unfriendly by attempting to transport himself across Manhattan through the kindness of strangers. Mark asked people to carry him as far as they could and was carted 9.4 miles from the Staten Island ferry to 141st Street by 155 different people.”

I love the intensity of their gaze. What were they thinking about in that moment?

Yippeeeee!

Filmmaking couple extraordinaire (and my dear friends and mentors) Steve Bognar & Julia Reichart were nominated for an Academy Award today in the category of documentary, short subject (wooo hoooo!). Their fantastic film, The Last Truck, played on HBO last fall and in a few select festivals. The film is a moving portrait of  the last six months of a GM factory brought to life by the poignant voices of its workers. The film made me ache for a different world, a different system; one where hard work is honored and where a company (and a country) takes care of its workers.

Go see it when you get the chance!

new business cards

I need business cards for my new married name…aren’t these from Rifle beautiful?

Ps. I thought I was going to keep my maiden name and use it professionally (for my filmmaking, teaching etc.) and my married name would be for the other parts of my life but I’ve completely dropped this idea. Having different last names has caused so much confusion. In their “Thank you” credits last semester my students used every possible variation of names for me (some used my maiden, some my married, some a combination of both names; I really just want there to be one me!)

awesome.
