old crush

Here is a great interview with Ira Glass. I love how he avoids the questions.

morning

Mornings for me start anywhere between 7-8am. For farmers they start at 5am, when it’s completely dark outside. This morning at 5am – in complete darkness – I was following Luke up in to the high orchard to get the cows in for milking. I kept trying to film but I couldn’t see anything. By the time the cows came down the hillside the sky had a glimmer of light and I could vaguely make out the silhouettes of the giant animals only inches away from me. When the dawn came it was quick and suddenly the sky was rosey and bright. I can’t believe they do this every morning. It’s 9:45am and I’m back by my computer with my coffee rubbing my sleepy eyes. And you know what – their day of work is only beginning.

reflection

I’m back at the farm filming. Summer has taken over and the plants are out of control. I paused yesterday and took in the landscape and realized just how much it has changed since I started this project last February. And soon, as autumn approaches, the landscape will transform again. I’ve caught myself in a funny feeling of nostalgia lately. And I know this isn’t going to make sense to anyone but I feel very nostalgic about this moment in my life. Like I have a feeling that years from now I will look back and reflect on this moment. Underneath the present stresses I feel calm and secure and completely confident. It all feels strangely new but I like it.

work/love

idsgn has a nice series on designers who are couples and live and work together. I always like reading about other couples experiences working with their partner. Sometimes it can be challenging but ultimately I find it unbelievably rewarding to work with Julian and create something together. I also like that our lives don’t have to be set up on a 9-5 schedule, we can work late at night or on the weekends if that’s when inspiration strikes.
